by Donna Cain, Innkeeper and Owner
As a young adult my mother once told me that time passes by much faster as we get older. At the time I remember thinking that’s just a crazy thought as time really does seem to pass by slowly…..now as an “older adult” I must say that like always, moms are always right!
Byron and I have been married for 19 years now. Our anniversary is on September 4th and since being innkeepers we are always very busy in September and never seem to find the time to celebrate properly on the official day. We always chuckle remembering our first year of innkeeping…… we actually both forgot our anniversary. It was a blessing that we both forgot. We just celebrated 19 wonderful years with fond memories of blending a wonderful family of three children, watching all be responsible and caring adults, and then taking a broad leap in life to leave our normal jobs to become innkeepers on Cape Cod. We purchased Brewster by the Sea 10 years ago and are still in shock that 10 years have passed. During that time Donna’s mother moved in at the inn and we have remodeled many of the rooms and common areas. It has been a joy to meet so many wonderful people over these past 10 years, many that return the same time year after year!
Inn keeping really is a blessing in itself, as you have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people, all with interesting stories and backgrounds. It also is a blessing to be a part of creating new memories for guests coming to Cape Cod for a special anniversary or celebration. We have made 1,000’s of chocolate covered strawberries to add as a surprise for couples celebrating a special occasion.
And so for this special Sunday, I feel very blessed to have so many wonderful memories and to feel hopeful for many more to come!
