Cape Cod Activities

We can assist you with arrangements and ideas to fill your days during your Cape Cod vacation. The historic Sea Captain's town of Brewster, Mass. is centrally located on the Cape making visits to all the corners much easier. Several of the more popular ideas of things to do in Cape Cod are presented below. We also include "The Cape Cod Explorer's Guide" , which is filled with various Cape Cod area attractions and activities, in your beautiful guestroom as a handy and detailed planning resource.

Bike and Nature Trails

Biking on Cape Cod Rail Trail
Cape Cod Rail Trail is a well-maintained asphalt bikeway that follows the Old Colony Railroad tracks for 26 miles from Dennis to Wellfleet. Because the trail runs through Brewster, and Nickerson State Park, there are many places to rent bicycles in town. Look for Rail Trail Bike & Blade (508-896-8200) on 302 Underpass Road in Brewster to rent your bikes or to leave your car and jump on the bike path. Our garage can house your own bikes if you bring them with you. This link will give you a great idea of the Cape Cod bike route's: Bicycling on Cape Cod & www.capecodbikeguide.com

There are many nature preserves and trails on the Cape with our favorites being the Fort Hill Trails, The Punkhorn trails, and The Audubon Nature Preserve. We are especially blessed to have The Cape Cod Natural History Museum across and up the street from us. The nature trails behind it are wonderful as they take you through a salt marsh with a boardwalk and to a secluded beach. The link above will take you to their website.

Nickerson State Park - Donna is from the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts and these piney woods remind us of that area.  Located in Brewster.

Cape Cod National Seashore Park - The National Seashore Park is just one of the many wonderful natural treasures that Cape Cod has to offer.

Theatre and Playhouses on Cape Cod

Cape Cod theatre
We are blessed with several acclaimed playhouses with the oldest, Cape Playhouse, being just down the street in Dennis. Over the years, the playhouse has featured the likes of Helen Hayes, Julie Harris and Jessica Tandy. Henry Fonda, Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart and Gregory Peck acted here before they were discovered. Brewster also has the Cape Rep Theatre which pursues an exciting mix of contemporary and classical plays and musicals. The company performs in two theatres nestled in the woods just across from Nickerson State Park; an indoor theatre runs from May- November and an outdoor theatre operates in summer.
Cape Cod Melody Tent - Best music, comedy, and family shows.
Cape Playhouse - America's oldest summer theatre located in Dennis, and our favorite in Brewster, the Cape Rep Theatre (last year we saw Tennessee Williams Rose Tattoo and the "The Full Monty". Our theatre expert from New York City also recommended The Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre.

Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard Excursions

Day trips to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard via ferry are a tradition for visitors to Cape Cod. Taking your bikes or renting bikes or motor scooters on the islands are a wonderful way to explore them. For more information click on the links given below. Seasonal Ferries run from HarwichPort Freedom Cruise Line, Inc to Nantucket. Year Round Ferries run from Hyannis to Nantucket via HyLine Cruises as well as seasonal runs to Martha's Vineyard. The Steamship Authority has year round service to Martha's Vineyard out of Wood's Hole.

Antiques

Antiques are a popular shopping item for our guests. There are over 30 antique shops within 8 miles of our inn and several world renowned auction houses, specialty shops, flea markets and thrift shops.

Cape Cod Golf courses

Golfing on Cape Cod - Captains course in Brewster
There are about 50 courses on the Cape and islands, and because of our relatively mild winters, many stay open all year round. The world renown Captains Golf Course is just down the street and has 36 holes of uncomplicated golf carved through graceful pines. In our rooms, we have included one of our guest's review of golf courses on the Cape. Feel free to help us add to this when you come.

Sailing & Whale Watching Cape Cod Style

Sailing from Hyannis to Nantucket and Marthas Vineyard
Cape Sail, out of Brewster and Harwich Harbors sails from late May to October. Captain Bob Rice has offered customized sailing lessons and overnight sailing schools. Bob also does custom charters and sunset and moonlighting cruises. Almost everyone who visits the Cape wishes to take a whale watching voyage. (Watching for seals in Chatham is also great). The following links can give you an idea of this: WhaleWatch.com, Princess Whale Watch, Hyannis Whale Watch

Cape Cod Baseball League

Minor league baseball on the Cape is exciting and fun. This league has produced quite a few major leaguers. Join the Brewster WhiteCaps in the quest for a division title. Cape Cod Baseball links you to all of the team game schedules (Where the Stars of Tomorrow Shine)

National Seashore & Cape Cod Bay Beaches

Cape Cod Lighthouses on the National Seashore
Cape Cod National Seashore beaches are out of our dreams: long expanses of dunes where you can walk with only one or two interruptions (breaks in the beach), as Henry David Thoreau did, from Chatham to the tip of Provincetown. Bay side beaches are also picturesque with our local beach, Paines Creek Beach, just down the street, having the most beautiful sunset on the Cape.
